Samantha Stella and Matteo Levaggi met in 2007. At that time Stella signs works under the name Corpicrudi, a duo of visual artists co-founded with Sergio Frazzingaro. From the first artistic encounter, a sliver of innovation entered the dance world with the three-act work "Primo Toccare," which debuted at the 2008 Biennale de la Danse de Lyon, at the Joyce Theater in New York in 2009, and concluded with the third act at the 2010 Bolzano Danza Festival, an occasion when the Sky Classica TV channel documented the entire work, still in the schedule today. Two motionless models - now inside transparent vitrines amid symbols of seventeenth-century Vanitas, now on a stylized altar - give way to two Greco-Roman statues while the dancers move energetically with post-classical movements.
From 2009 to 2014, Levaggi and Corpicrudi were resident artists of Balletto Teatro di Torino, based in the Lavanderia a Vapore in Collegno, a center of dance excellence. Together they create works that will tour the most prestigious theaters around the world. Works that often arise from an impulse that starts from a work of art sometimes conceived by Corpicrudi, and that take shape to be read simultaneously on different planes and languages, body, choreography, performance, video, installation.
Not only theater, but an overlapping of languages and situations that also pass through music, fashion and film. In 2014, invited to Los Angeles Fashion Week, Stella and Levaggi perform at the Ace Museum together with the Los Angeles rock band Von Haze.
Their energy also bursts into cinema, as it does for Nexo Digital in 2015 with the film "SEXXX" by Davide Ferrario, dedicated to Levaggi's work, now featured on Amazon Prime's Nexo Plus channel.
And again, visual art. In 2019, under the joint name Matteo Stella Dance Arts, they create the work "Death Speaks," to music granted by David Lang, commissioned by the Madre Museum in Naples on the occasion of the exhibition on the famous New York photographer Robert Mapplerthorpe. Stefano Bucci dedicates a long article to them in the Corriere della Sera's "La Lettura" insert, recalling the profound suggestion of a fim director like David Lynch on their work and calling it "a dialogue between contemporary creation and art history."
The direct gaze toward the search for beauty and the love for classical art, revised with contemporary eyes and full attention to minimal but enigmatic and sometimes perturbing aesthetic detail, are the stylistic hallmark of the world of Matteo Stella Dance Arts.
Many newspapers have covered their work, such as the Financial Times in NYC, which called the work "Primo Toccare" with the words "Sublime Gentleness," giving it four stars out of five.
In 2023, Matteo Stella Dance Arts meets again to conceive a new creation in collaboration with Teatro e l’Accademia alla Scala in Milan, which premières at Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
In 2024 they return to New York for Untitled New Work, a project-in-residence at New York University, Tisch School of the Arts | Dance, shared with two American choreographers, Karole Armitage - The Punk Ballerina (Vanity Fair) and Richard Move - Best Dance 2021 (The New York Times). The duo chooses dancer Megan LeCrone, a soloist with New York City Ballet, as a guest.
Matteo Levaggi began his study of ballet at the School of Classical Ballet directed by Liliana Cosi and Marinel Stefansescu. He joins in 1991 as a student and dancer, the Balletto Teatro di Torino directed by Loredana Furno, where prestigious choreographers such as Karole Armitage create for him. In 1999 he began his activity as stable choreographer of the Balletto Teatro di Torino. With this team he creates pieces for La Biennale di Venezia Danza, La Biennale de La Danse de Lyon, the Joyce Thetre in NYC. Meanwhile, foundations such as the Arena di Verona and Teatro Massimo in Palermo commission him to create new works. In 2014 he chooses a career as a freelancer. Peter Martins wants him for the New York Choreographic Institute/NYCB. At the same time he creates a ballet to music by Oscar winner Ennio Morricone for the Florence Opera. In 2015 his work SEXXX is released in cinemas distributed by Nexo Digital. Pop star Madonna informs the press of her desire to see the film. He creates for Les Italiens de l'Opéra de Paris on the occasion of their debut at the Ravello Festival.
Since January 2023 he has been choreographer of the master class for professional dancers at the Accademia Teatro alla Scala.

Samantha Stella e Matteo Levaggi si conoscono nel 2007. All’epoca Stella firma le opere a nome Corpicrudi, duo di artisti visivi co-fondato insieme a Sergio Frazzingaro. Dal primo incontro artistico una scheggia d'innovazione entra nel mondo della danza con l'opera in tre atti "Primo Toccare" che debutta alla Biennale de la Danse de Lyon 2008, al Joyce Theater di New York nel 2009, per concludersi con un terzo atto al Festival Bolzano Danza 2010, occasione in cui il canale Sky Classica TV documenta l'intero lavoro, ancora oggi nel palinsesto. Due modelle immobili - ora dentro a teche trasparenti in mezzo a simboli di Vanitas seicentesche, ora su un altare stilizzato - lasciano spazio a due statue greco-romane mentre i danzatori si muovono energicamente con movimenti post-classici.
Dal 2009 al 2014 Levaggi e Corpicrudi sono artisti residenti del Balletto Teatro di Torino, che ha sede nella Lavanderia a Vapore di Collegno, centro di eccellenza della danza. Insieme creano opere che faranno il giro dei più prestigiosi teatri nel mondo. Le opere nascono spesso da un impulso che parte da un’opera di arte talvolta concepita da Corpicrudi, e che prendono forma per essere lette contemporaneamente su diversi piani e linguaggi, corpo, coreografia, performance, video, installazione.
Non solo teatro, ma una sovrapposizione di vari linguaggi e situazioni che passano anche attraverso la musica, la moda e il cinema. Nel 2014, invitati alla Fashion Week di Los Angeles, Stella e Levaggi performano all’Ace Museum insieme alla band rock losangelina Von Haze.
La loro energia irrompe con vigore anche al cinema, come accade per Nexo Digital nel 2015 con il film “SEXXX” di Davide Ferrario, dedicato al lavoro di Levaggi, oggi presente sul canale Nexo Plus di Amazon Prime.
E ancora, l’arte visiva. Nel 2019, con il nome congiunto Matteo Stella Dance Arts, creano l’opera “Death Speaks”, su musiche concesse da David Lang, commissionatagli dal Museo Madre di Napoli in occasione della mostra sul celebre fotografo newyorkese Robert Mapplerthorpe. Stefano Bucci dedica loro un lungo articolo sull'inserto "La Lettura" del Corriere della Sera ricordando la profonda suggestione di un maestro come David Lynch sulla loro opera e definendola “un dialogo tra la creazione contemporanea e la storia dell’arte”.
Lo sguardo diretto verso la ricerca della bellezza e l’amore per l'arte classica, rivisto con occhi contemporanei e una piena attenzione al dettaglio estetico minimale ma enigmatico e talora perturbante, sono la cifra stilistica del mondo di Matteo Stella Dance Arts.
Molti i giornali che si sono occupati del loro lavoro, come il Financial Times di NYC, il quale ha definito l'opera “Primo Toccare” con le parole "Sublime delicatezza", attribuendogli quattro stelle su cinque.
Nel 2023 Matteo Stella Dance Arts si ritrova per concepire una nuova creazione in collaborazione con il Teatro e l’Accademia alla Scala di Milano che debutta al Teatro alla Scala di Milano.

Matteo Levaggi, inizia lo studio della danza classica presso la Scuola di Balletto Classico diretta da Liliana Cosi e Marinel Stefansescu. Entra nel 1991 a far parte come allievo e danzatore, del Balletto del Teatro di Torino diretto da Loredana Furno, dove prestigiosi coreografi come Karole Armitage creano per lui. Nel 1999 inizia la sua attività di coreografo stabile del Balletto Teatro di Torino. Con questa formazione crea pezzi per La Biennale di Venezia Danza, La Biennale de La Danse de Lyon, il Joyce Thetre di NYC. Nel frattempo fondazioni come l'Arena di Verona e il Teatro Massimo di Palermo gli commissionano nuove creazioni. Nel 2014 sceglie una carriera come Freelance. Peter Martins lo vuole per il New York Choreographic Institute/NYCB. Nello stesso tempo crea un balletto su musiche del Premio Oscar Ennio Morricone per l'Opera di Firenze. Nel 2015 il suo lavoro SEXXX esce nelle sale cinematografiche distribuito da Nexo Digital. La Pop Star Madonna comunica alla stampa il desiderio di vedere il film. Crea per Les Italiens de l'Opéra de Paris, in occasione del loro debutto al Ravello Festival. Dal gennaio 2023 è coreografo del corso di perfezionamento per danzatori professionisti dell’Accademia Teatro alla Scala.
